“Going through all these things twice”: historically aware philosophy of science for the 21st century

Activity: Talk or presentationPoster presentationscience-to-science

Description

Traditional, formalist philosophy of science has largely fallen out of vogue. The old focus on theories, Tarskian models, and logical relationships has been superseded by practice-based, contextualist, socially oriented philosophy of science. This transformation involves the problems deemed relevant as well as the concepts and methods employed. This poster makes the case that the traditional themes and methods can, should, and will play a role in the 21st century. The examples below are but initial impulses for open-ended research agendas that preserve the treasures of traditional philosophy of science, yet modify them where necessary for an integration with contemporary endeavors.
