Flow monitoring in a bubble column reactor by Distributed Acoustic Sensing

Activity: Talk or presentationContributed talkscience-to-science

Description

We report on the use of a Distributed Acous-tic Sensing system to monitor a bubble column reactorsetup. This type of chemical reactor has a wide range offundamental applications that require detailed monitor-ing of their internal flow dynamics. Distributed AcousticSensing is demonstrated to reproduce measurements froma hydrophone in a non-intrusive manner and to detectmechanical vibration patterns associated with both largeand small bubbles at high spatial resolution. The promis-ing experimental results underscore the viability of usingDistributed Acoustic Sensing for real-time monitoring ofbubble column reactors, providing spatially resolved in-sights in the flow characteristics. This study paves the wayfor further exploration of the application of DistributedAcoustic Sensing in monitoring bubble column reactors.
