Flat integration of a segmented linear motor direct drive to activate an active stick system facade

Activity: Talk or presentationContributed talkscience-to-science

Description

Ultra slim framed windows and doors allow extraordinary architectural creations and meet highest aesthetic requirements. This makes the stick system fac¸ade a solution that combines lightness and openness in design with a high degree of functionality. Especially active fac¸ade elements integrated into a smart home environment raise the functionality of the outer skin of the building to a new level. The proposed integrated linear motor drive solves the aesthetic issue of an additional framing and allows the sliding window sash to open fully and silently. From the technical point of view the main requirements are a durable and very flat motor design with a thermal and windload tolerance compensation. The segmented central direct drive is compact, does not require a gear box and reduces the noise level to the audible limit. The design of the proposed linear machine is aimed at energy-efficient integration into the fac¸ade, simplicity and comfort as well as robustness and durability. It is tolerant to weather influences and proposes solutions to the technical consequences of aesthetic benefits. The system is modeled and optimized using FE analyses and a genetic optimization algorithm. Finally the manufactured prototype validates the functionality of the system.
