Design of a Novel Bearingless Permanent Magnet Vernier Slice Motor with External Rotor

Activity: Talk or presentationContributed talkscience-to-science

Description

This work presents a novel bearingless (slice) motor concept, the bearingless Vernier motor. It is intended for low speed and high torque applications, as typical for direct drives. Design criteria are deduced by the help of an analytic model describing single phase force and torque generation. The feasibility of the model is also proven by finite element simulations. Based on these results the performance of several bearingless permanent magnetic Vernier motor topologies with exterior rotor is evaluated. After that a bearingless Vernier motor prototype is optimized by 3D finite element simulations, designed and manufactured.
