Description

The aim of this paper is to show that copreneurs need entrepreneurial capabilities and managerial skills in order to grow their business successfully. Drawing on our knowledge of copreneurs and the logic embodied in entrepreneurship, family business and resource-based-view literatures as well as the results of six case studies (one of them a longitudinal case study), it is demonstrated that these competences enable copreneurs to master challenges associated with (fast) growth: creating and exploiting market opportunities as well as integrating growth through adequate structures, routines and systems. A prerequisite is that the copreneurs act in a behaviourally integrated way. Their advantage lies in strategic decision effectiveness and process efficiency due to familiness, which is discussed in the family business literature.
