Control of Earthquake Excited Nonlinear Shear-Wall-Type Structures Using Input Output Linearization

Activity: Talk or presentationContributed talkunknown

Description

Nonlinear control laws for a seismically excited nonlinear structure are presented. Bouc's model is used to take hysteretic forces into account. The investigations are based on differential geometric methods for nonlinear control systems. Since the structural model is not locally reachable the nonlinear control law is designed by the method of input output linearization via state feedback. Stability is proven by Liapunov's linearization method. In this special case only six state variables must be measured instead of the whole state. Simulations of an artificial earthquake show that these simple control laws produce a sufficient or excellent damping for an eight story building depending on the magnitude of the plant input.
