Description

This contribution is concerned with the analysis and rejection of third octave chatter, a vibration phenomenon in steel cold rolling mills. In order to analyse the dynamic system, which is nonlinear in nature, a mathematical model of the plant is presented. With the help of this model it will be shown that third octave chatter can be explained by an instability of the dynamic system. For the purpose of an active vibration rejection the hydraulic adjustment system is used as an actuator. Based on the energy desciption of the hdraulic system a nonlinear controller is designed. Finally, the performance of active chatter rejection is demonstrated by simulation results.
