Bubble dynamics under the influence of marangoni force induced by stratified contamination

Description

Marangoni flow plays a major role when a concentration gradient is present. A study of the effect of Marangoni force induced by stratified filed of dissolved sugar on the single bubble dynamics is presented. The bubble velocity, aspect ratio and trajectory under the influence of positive and negative vertical sugar concentration gradient were numerically and experimentally studied using volume of fluid (VOF) and photography methods, respectively. The results indicate that bubbles, which enter the area with high concentration of sugar, slow down and move from the center of column towards the walls, whereas those bubbles who leave the area with high concentration of sugar speed up and keep moving in the center of column. The findings are beneficial for the investigation of bubble column in complex environments.
