Description

This talk analyses the strategies students use in a research task that attempts to do exactly that: help them to learn how to use information from diverse sources in a creative way. Using student interviews and their reflective writing, it will bring a Grounded Theory approach to the task under investigation, the so-called Research Package that business students have to put together in their second mandatory English course at Johannes Kepler University. Acting as autonomous agents, students follow their own interests when choosing articles with a business focus, supplement each article with additional information and choose a piece of business writing (for example a memo to colleagues) that presents the information collected. The research accompanying this project attempts to identify the strategies that are particularly successful in this task in order to make them more explicit to students in future courses.
