Description

The UN-Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) (http://www.un.org/disabilities/convention/conventionfull.shtml) is the most important global political and democratic expression of the will of granting and guaranteeing human rights to people with disabilities for equal participation in all areas of society and citizenship. The UN-convention is the result of many political and civil rights movements at national and global level driving and anchoring the paradigmatic shift from the personal deficit (medical, charity, protection) oriented model of disability towards an inclusive, equal chances and human rights model (social construction of disability, environmental adaptation, discrimination). [see models of disability]. As an international ratified treaty the UN CRPD is the most important reference and instrument to push forward and monitor national legislation, administration and actual implementation of accessibility as a fundamental human right of people with disabilities
