Description

We present the simulation, fabrication and evaluation of a contact angle measurement device based on spontaneous capillary flow in open microchannels. Compared to existing contact angle measurement devices that typically rely on optical evaluation of droplet shapes, the measurement is done through reading-out which microchannels fill with the corresponding liquid. The layout of the design was created by using an automated tool that ensures equal channel lengths and the right connection and placement of the reservoirs of the read-out. We show both, a fabrication using laser-written Gaussian grooves in PMMA and one using injection moulded V-shaped grooves.
