3rd International Workshop on Epitaxial Growth and Fundamental Properties of Semiconductor Nanostructures (SemiconNano 2011)

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventOrganising a conference, workshop, ...

Description

The workshop SemiconNano-2011 covers all aspects of growth, characterization, modelling and applications of self-assembled epitaxial nanostructures, with particular focus on SiGe, III-V, II-VI, IV-VI and magnetic semiconductors, graphene and oxides. Principal topics: Growth dynamics: Nucleation and growth evolution of epitaxial or catalyzed nanostructures, including in situ techniques such as STM, TEM, electron and x-ray diffraction. Ordering and site-control: Growth on patterned substrates for spatial control, effects of termination and reconstruction of crystal surfaces, growth on high-indexed substrates. Theory: Fundamental theory and first principles methods, kinetic Monte Carlo modeling, multi-scale modeling of growth, theory of electronic properties. Properties of nano-scale structures and advanced characterization methods: Morphological, structural and electronic properties of low dimensional structures such as quantum dots, rings, dot molecules, wires and nano-rods. Includes novel approaches such as cross-sectional STM/AFM, tomography, synchrotron scattering, electron microscopy and optical spectroscopy. Device applications: Application of epitaxial nanostructures for optoelectronic devices, quantum computation and energy harvesting. This also includes novel concepts and integration with photonic structures.
