Abstract
A flat double-stator linear induction machine (DSLIM) with short cage mover is investigated in this study. The performance of the machine is evaluated with three different control methods: The first uses a constant slip frequency and current amplitude and it operates without any specific machine parameters. The others are vector control methods: Field oriented control (FOC) and direct thrust force control (DTFC) which require the resistance and inductance parameters or an observer respectively. The motor performance is determined on the basis of a two-dimensional time-transient simulation with the finite element software ANSYS Maxwell and the results are validated with measurements on a prototype test bench showing the superiority of FOC.
