Abstract
We present a very comfortable and highly reproducible way to fabricate polycrystalline MgB2 films by screen printing, by airbrush or by painting of boron layers on ceramic substrates followed by a reaction with Mg vapor. As substrates polycrystalline Al2O3, ZrO2 and monocrystalline Al2O3, ZrO2, SrTiO3, MgO and LaAlO3 were studied. Mechanical and electrolytic polishing led to smooth films with a thickness of ≤ 1 µm. The transition temperatures were about 33-35 K and the irreversibility fields up to 5 T at 20 K. Critical current densities of 8 x 108 A/m2 were measured at 20 K and 1 T. Since no texturing of the MgB2 crystallites was observed, the superconducting properties show isotropic behavior in external magnetic fields.
