Abstract

Both 2D and 3D Finite Element models for roughness transfer in temper and skin-pass rolling are presented. By utilizing adequate submodelling techniques, the simulation can be divided into two steps. The first step is a coarse large scale analysis of the rolling process incorporating a smooth elastically deformable work roll and a regularised frictional contact formulation describing the interaction with an elasto-viscoplastic steel strip. Based on the results of the coarse global analysis, the second simulation step performs a detailed local analysis on the length scale of the roughness structures. This local analysis takes into account only a small partition of the work roll and the strip, respectively.
