Amirhesam Aghanouri, MSc, from the Intelligent Transport Systems Department at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, has been awarded the second prize and 3,500 euros by the anniversary foundation of the Vehicle Association (Fahrzeugverband) 2025 for his exceptional master thesis titled “LiDAR Point Cloud Image-based Generation using Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Models.”
Supervised by Univ. Prof. Dr. Cristina Olaverri-Monreal, his research introduces innovative noise schedules and time-step embeddings to enhance generative modeling for LiDAR data. The work contributes to improving perception reliability in autonomous vehicles by generating high-quality synthetic LiDAR images that support safer and more efficient driving systems.
This recognition, presented by the trade association of the Austrian vehicle industry, honors outstanding academic contributions of high relevance to the Austrian automotive industry. Amirhesam is now continuing his research as a PhD student at the JKU Intelligent Transport Systems Department.
