Income Inequality in Imperial Austria, 1911

Beschreibung

The paper examines income inequality in the Western half of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1911. It estimates regional and local levels of income, gives an estimate of income distribution, and offers an explanation of the degree of inequality. Units of analysis are the districts and townships of Imperial Austria. Findings suggest that income distribution depended mostly on the level of income a region had attained in 1911. Other relevant factors are the sectorial structure and migration patterns.
