Beschreibung

Blood rheology is a complex topic which involves biological cells suspended in a Newtonian fluid. The cells are highly deformable and also constitute more than 50% of blood volume. To understand the behaviour of blood flow, several models have been developed, namely continuum and discrete models. The continuum and high-resolution discrete models prove to be inefficient. Coarse-grained mesoscopic approaches have balanced accuracy with efficiency. However, these methods also tend to be inefficient for large scale simulations. With the help of model-order reduction, further simplification of the complex flow scenario was achieved. The present work focuses on the development of a reduced-order model for blood flow dynamics in the framework of resolved CFD-DEM. The method as verified for various scenarios where some of the important characteristics of blood flow, such as aggregation behaviour, discharge hematocrits and relations between channel size and hematocrits to the flow characteristics, were analyzed to quantify the performance of the present work.
