5G Mobile Radios: System, Architectures, and Complications

Aktivität: Vortrag oder PräsentationVortrag nach Bewerbung und AuswahlScience-to-science

Beschreibung

5G New Radio is here, and it brings considerable advantages for consumers and industries, like multi-gigabit-per-second wireless data speed, and entirely new possibilities enabled by ultra-short data transport latencies and immense densities for cellular data endpoints. On the other hand, it also increases—yet again—the requirements and complications for the radio sub-systems driving these new devices, especially in hand-held (Size! Antennas!) and battery-operated (Power!) form-factors. Besides the classical microwave frequencies in the 400MHz to 7GHz-range, a completely new part of the spectrum in the 24-40GHz mm-wave range will be exploited, bringing its own set of issues not encountered so far in the cellular world. In this workshop contribution, the relevant RF implications of the 5G NR standard are reviewed, and the latest implementations are presented for 5G radios. The complications caused by the standard, and induced by practical implementations, are presented, and an outlook on how to overcome these is outlined.
